I Spy...Split Skirts

While online shopping and browsing through the runway shows and street style blogs, I noticed the split skirt (or sarong skirt?) appearing again and again, which I'm so not complaining about. The split definitely makes the skirt more exciting, edgy and structured.

The mini length versions are perfect for summer, but the fabric and texture for these skirts seem to usually be more decadent and thick, which makes it also very suitable for fall. I'm crossing my fingers that it becomes a big trend this season. I just have to get my hands on one now...

Featured: CollegeFashionista X American Eagle Outfitters: 28 Days of Shorts

I apologize for the lack of posts, again. School has been taking over my life.

All academic-related chaos aside, I was very lucky to have the opportunity to be featured on CollegeFashionista's campaign with American Eagle Outfitters called 28 Days of Shorts, which has 28 different Style Gurus personally styling an outfit around a pair of AEO shorts.

The shorts I'm wearing for Day 3 are the AE Frayed Denim Festival Shortie, which are perfectly casual and trendy for the upcoming spring season (which needs to come sooner).

Check out my feature and keep visiting CollegeFashionista for the rest of the days!

Collar My World

A trend that I am completely obsessed with lately are collars and the more intricate they are the better. I saw this sleeveless collared blouse on tumblr worn by a Teen Vogue intern and I thought it was the sweetest thing.

By happenstance, I saw it at the Topshop section in Nordstrom and I knew I had to have it. Luckily, my best friend and I were Christmas shopping for each other so this was her gift to me, which I demanded to have in my closet very, very early. I paired it with my favorite oxblood red skinnies and gold TOMS for a casual yet sparkly touch.

Ladylike Cool: Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2013

I apologize for the lack of posts. A nasty flu along with final projects have taken over my days. Coming out of feeling very ill, I was very content and excited to see the images of Michael Kors's Pre-Fall 2013 collection. It's basically what I would want to ideally look like as a woman. The silhouettes are reminiscent of the 1950s, but updated for the contemporary female.

Its combination of modernity and classic feminism creates an image of a MK woman who is elegant, classy, strong, modern and cool. The coveted collection includes a glam fur stole, punchy pink cigarette trouser, floral print full A-line skirt, matching pair of top and pants, leather jacket paired with a lace pencil skirt, oversized coats, peplum tops and, of course, cat-eye shades. This small list alone should make any lady drool. It reminds me of what Grace Kelly would wear if she were a working woman today. Take a look at my favorite looks below and be sure to click on the Vogue link for the whole collection.

Pink Friday

No, I am not talking about the great Nicki Minaj. In lieu of Black Friday, which was murderous to my wallet yet generous to my wardrobe, let's go with Pink Friday where we long for the scrumptious pink candy-like goodies.

How To Be A Heartbreaker

Marina & the Diamonds is another one I am completely obsessed with. Her new look with sophomore album, Electra Heart, made me fall hard and press the repeat button on all her songs. When she first came out with The Family Jewels, she was a punchy black haired beauty with quirk and edge. Her songs focused on personal critique of commercialism and modern values in society.

She followed up with Electra Heart and debuted a new look as a bottle blond Valley of the Dolls-esque belle (now her hair is back to black). Although her sound is more pop and electronic, Marina still expresses her thoughts on the emptiness and facade occurring in society today by creating this merciless and seductive diva, who is actually very vulnerable inside. Electra also has more love songs than her first album and I love love songs. They're actually more like break-up songs, which I am also not complaining about.

I decided to try a little bit of thematic dressing with this outfit. Her latest single and music video, "How To Be A Heartbreaker," has Marina in black patent leather ensembles with a sweet ribbon in her hair. She looks sexy and pretty, yet edgy and tough: a girl you don't want to mess with. As someone who never says no to the leather trend, I am obsessed with all her looks in this video. So, I had to take on the challenge to channel my inner Marina.

Style tip: Leather is not just for domimatrix ladies. Leather can chic-up a boring outfit and it's perfectly appropriate for the fall/winter season. If you're feeling edgy, don't be afraid to layer leather. Just use your editing eye and make sure it's the right amount of it and the right type of clothing. Wear tights if you're wearing a short skirt, don't pair it with a studded leather crop top, don't wear too many accessories with it, etc. For example, a leather top paired with paneled leather trousers with a statement necklace alone would be perfect.

Just use your noodle. If you think you look like you're about to be in Rihanna's "S&M" video, maybe you should change because instead you should be looking like a model off duty. To soften the look add a feminine hair accessory as Marina did with a pink hair ribbon. And remember, "Wear your heart on your cheek." X

Fog & Jewels

Although it was pretty scary and chilly looking out from the bluff on this abnormally foggy day, it was hauntingly beautiful at the same time. The upside was that I was able to wear my new emerald top with embellished shoulders along with my magenta wedges. Mixing deep jewel tones is perfect for fall. To avoid from looking too fancy and overdressed with sparkly garments and/or embellishments during the day, pair it with jeans or plain trousers to keep it casual and bring out the design.
